About Me
I started Not the Preprint out of my dissatisfaction of doing animal behavior research. I went to graduate school from 2020-2025, a very politically turbulent time in modern American history. My Ph.D focused on using computational models to explore associative learning mechanisms in animals, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the public utility of my work was lacking. I slowly found myself progressively more disillusioned by the state of academia, the ability of the education system to respond to the rise of generative AI, and... my intellectual promiscuity compells me to talk about more than just animal behavior.
Animal behavior will always be interesting to me. I still want to do research within my field, but I feel like I can better serve the public through education by other means. Thus leading to the creation of Not the Preprint. The name originates the draft of a journal article called a preprint, which typically available online before the formal publication. With the name, I wanted to make it clear that commentary/scientific communication is not the same as research. It is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek disclaimer. I think it's important to distinguish the difference between scientific communication and research.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy perusing through the website. (You can take that contronym any way you like! :) )
